COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Former Mizzou National Champion Fabian Schwingenschloegl earned a fourth-place finish and set a German short course record at the 2017 European Short Course Championships Wednesday in Copenhagen, Denmark. Schwingenschloegl took fourth and set his record in the 50m breast.
Schwingenschloegl, who swam for Missouri in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, first took down Germany's 50m breast short course mark with a 26.22 in morning preliminaries. He then lowered his record to 26.02 in the semifinals to earn a spot in finals, where he touched the wall 25.99 to place fourth overall in the event.
He is also slated to swim the 200m breast on Thursday, Dec. 14 and the 100m breast on Friday, Dec. 15.
Schwingenschloegl claimed Mizzou's first individual swimming national tile in the 100y breast at the 2016 NCAA Championships. He also earned runner-up honors in the event in 2017 and finished third in the 200y breast in 2016. He concluded his two-year Tiger career in 2017 as a six-time first team All-American and a three-time honorable mention All-American. He owns Missouri's 100 breast record (50.77) and sits second in the 200 breast (1:51.84). Schwingenschloegl also claimed the German 50m breast (long course) national title in 2016.
