COLUMBIA, Mo. – Following a pair of victories in its Fall Ball opener (Oct. 7), Mizzou Softball returned to the diamond this past Saturday (Oct. 14) for another doubleheader. The Tigers' offense exploded for 33 runs over their recent two contests, as they continue to put in work during the offseason.
Notables
- In game one vs. Highland, freshman Hatti Moore blasted a leadoff home run, previewing a sign of things to come that day for Mizzou.
- Moore added a second quick RBI, as she drove in freshman Brooke Wilmes with a second inning sacrifice fly. The versatile Wilmes led off the frame by reaching base via a hit by pitch and moved into scoring position with a stolen base.
- Mizzou busted the game open over the third and fourth innings, adding 12 runs to its early total. A leadoff home run in the third by redshirt junior Amanda Sanchez and grand slam from freshman Callie Martin highlighted the Tigers' impressive outburst.
- Sophomore Cayla Kessinger and Martin opened the sixth inning with a pair of hits, setting up junior Kolby Romaine's two-RBI knock to conclude Mizzou's opening game run production.
- In the circle, sophomore Eli Daniel, redshirt junior Madi Norman and sophomore Nalani Scates combined for a shutout. The Tiger trio each produced multiple strikeouts over their respective outings, including Daniel and Norman striking out the side over an inning.
- In game two vs. Highland, the Tigers once again played a strong overall game, scoring 13 runs on offense and shutting out the opposition yet again. In the circle, freshman Lauren Rice and Scates were lights out, tallying five and six strikeouts, respectively.
- Offensively, Mizzou jumped on top early again with three runs in the first inning. Freshman Trenity Edwards delivered the big blow with a two RBI hit.
- After scoreless second and third frames, the Tigers exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning. Freshmen Tajiah Ellison, Delaney McDannold, Kara Decker and Abby George recorded four consecutive hits over the big frame, as well as run-producing knocks from junior Rylee Pierce and Edwards.
- In Mizzou's charity game against Mizzou Baseball, the Tigers got a third game's worth of at bats and continued their solid offensive production. Against their teammates and Tiger hurlers, McDannold and Moore produced consecutive hits in the third inning to set the table. Pierce once again came through with a two RBI run-producing hit off the right field fence.
- Pierce concluded her standout game at the plate with a home run in the fourth inning, clinching Mizzou's Softball victory against its baseball counterparts.
