BUDAPEST, Hungary - Michael Chadwick earned a gold medal as part of the United States' men's 4x100m free relay team Sunday at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Chadwick swam on the relay in morning preliminary action to claim his gold.
Chadwick and his teammates swam a 3:12.90 in prelims to enter finals seeded third in the 4x100m free relay. The U.S. quartet of Caeleb Dressel, Townley Haas, Blake Pieroni and Nathan Adrian then notched a 3:10.06 in finals to take home the gold.
The medal was the fourth of Chadwick's international career. He also claimed three at the 2016 FINA Short Course World Championships, where he anchored the U.S.'s mixed 4x50m medley relay and brought the team back from seventh-place to first and claim the gold medal in a meet record time of 1:37.22. He also earned a silver on the men's 4x50m free relay team and a bronze with the men's 4x100m free relay squad at the December meet.
Chadwick concluded his collegiate career as the most decorated Tiger in program history in March. He is an 11-time first team and 11-time honorable mention All-American, with five of those first team honors coming as an individual, including four over the last two seasons. He finished second in the 100 free at the 2017 NCAA Championships in a school record time of 40.95, which also made him the event's fourth-fastest performer in history. Chadwick also placed fourth in the 50 free and 12th in the 100 breast at NCAAs and swam on Mizzou's third-place 400 medley relay, fourth-place 200 medley relay and seventh-place 200 free relay teams at the Championships. He owns four different Tiger records (50 free, 100 free, 200 free and 200 IM) and is a two-time member of the USA Swimming National Team.
