The meet features professional swimmers competing in a 50m long-course meter freestyle with a preliminary, semifinal and final format, all within one hour. He finished second in the 100 free at the 2017 NCAA Championships in a school record time of 40.95, which also made him the event's fourth-fastest performer in history. He owns four different Tiger records (50 free, 100 free, 200 free and 200 IM) and is a two-time member of the USA Swimming National Team.

Internationally, Chadwick won three medals at December's FINA Short Course World Championships, where he anchored the U.S.'s mixed 4x50m medley relay and brought the team back from seventh-place to first and claim the gold medal in a meet record time of 1:37.22. He also earned a silver on the men's 4x50m free relay team and a bronze with the men's 4x100m free relay squad.
