KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Mizzou men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened competition at the 2017 Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Tuesday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Tiger women sit third following one day of action with 146 points, while the men are 10th with 70 points.
Texas A&M (158 points) and Georgia (155) lead the women's standings after day one, while Texas A&M (188), Florida (165.5) and LSU (154) are the top three in the men's standings.
Redshirt senior Lauren Reedy (Rochester Hills, Michigan) recovered from an early miscue to place fifth in the women's 3-meter competition with a finals score of 339.9. Reedy slipped on the board during her second dive for a score of zero. However, she bounced back with scores of 63, 69, 67.5 and 74.4 in her final four dives to jump back in the standings for her fifth-place finish.
The women's 800 free relay barely missed out on a school record but still earned fourth in the race. Mizzou's team of juniors Erin Metzger-Seymour (Westminster, Colorado), Kira Zubar (Chaska, Minnesota), Sharli Brady (Burlington, Kentucky) and Rachel Hayden (Indianapolis, Indiana) touched the wall in 7:04.22, just off the program-best time of 7:03.77 set in 2009.
On the men's 1-meter springboard, sophomore Kyle Goodwin (Aurora, Colorado) placed 11th with 334.35 points, while junior Hunter Fritter (Houston, Texas) took 21st with 286.90 points.
The men were disqualified in the men's 800 free relay on early relay exchanges.
