Groters, Trost Earn SEC Community Service Team Recognition

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Victoria Trost and junior Jordy Groters, members of the Mizzou swimming and diving teams, were named to the 2017 Southeastern Conference Community Service Teams, the SEC office announced on Feb. 13. The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all league-sponsored sports to highlight students who give back to their community with superior effort.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Victoria Trost and junior Jordy Groters, members of the Mizzou swimming and diving teams, were named to the 2017 Southeastern Conference Community Service Teams, the SEC office announced on Feb. 13. The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all league-sponsored sports to highlight students who give back to their community with superior effort.

Trost, who hails from Johnston, Iowa., has been a familiar face in the Columbia community. She has spent extensive time volunteering with UCP Heartland, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with cerebral palsy and other disabilities, including Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, physical and developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injury. Additionally, Trost has volunteered her time with S.W.I.M., Swim Across America, Adapted Gymnastics, National Student Athlete Day, Caleb's Pitch, the Food Bank for Central and Northwest Missouri and the MS 150 Bike Ride, among other organizations and events.

A native of Oranjestad, Aruba., Groters is active member of the Columbia community. He spent extensive time with Centro Latino de Salud in the summer of 2016, an organization that works to empower Latinos, Latino families and the general public through provision of services and guidance in navigating the health, education and cultural resources of mid-Missouri. He also volunteered his time with the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.

Other members of the 2017 Women's Swimming and Diving Community Service Team include Emily Zapinski (Alabama), Chelsea Tatlow (Arkansas), Natasha Boyd (Auburn), Hannah Burns (Florida), Emily Cameron (Georgia), Kelly Berger (Kentucky), Angele Cherbonnier (LSU), Marissa Roth (South Carolina), Kira Toussaint (Tennessee) and Laura Norman (Texas A&M).

The men's squad also consisted of Carlo Rezzonico (Alabama), Joe Patching (Auburn), Samuel Smith (Florida), Basil Orr (Georgia),Kyle Higgins (Kentucky), Logan Rysemus (LSU), Bruce Kananowicz (South Carolina), Matthew Dunphy (Tennessee) and Duncan Mulleady (Texas A&M).
