Hess' Header Gives @MizzouSoccer 2-1 Overtime Win Over Mississippi State

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Allie Hess (Kearney, Mo.) headed home the game-winner in the 99th minute as the Mizzou soccer team defeated Mississippi State in overtime, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Walton Stadium. Hess got her head on a corner kick from junior Kaitlyn Clark (Liberty, Mo.) and easily beat the Bulldog keeper inside the left post.

The Tigers improved to 8-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in Southeastern Conference play with the win, while the Bulldogs fell to 5-6-0 and 0-4-0.

With the first overtime session winding down. Clark picked out Hess wide open 10-yards out from the left post and lofted a perfect pass toward her teammate. Hess barely had to jump to redirect the pass toward the upper left netting for the game-winner and her fifth goal of the season.

Mizzou's goal was the product of continuous offensive pressure over the last 20 minutes of the contest. The Bulldog defense cleared two Tiger shots off the line during the game, both attempts from sophomore Bethany Coons (Union, Mo.) and the 82nd and 87th minutes.

Missouri enjoyed a 16-4 advantage in corner kicks, including a 13-0 edge in the second half and overtime.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute when Jen Huckaby one-timed a pass from Mallory Eubanks past diving sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Dossey (Plainfield, Ind.).

In the 58th minute, an own goal from Mississippi State evened the match at 1-1. Clark drilled a cross directly in front of the net that bounced off a Bulldog defender and went over the goal line for Mizzou's first goal of the day.

Dossey made three saves in net for the Tigers.

Mizzou returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 30 as the team travels to Auburn, Ala., to face Auburn at 7 p.m. CT.
