COLUMBIA, Mo. – Senior Michael Chadwick (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio) of the Mizzou swimming team were named to the USA Swimming 2016-17 National Team, the organization announced on Friday (Sept. 9). Both Tigers made the team for the second consecutive season.
The USA Swimming National Team is comprised of the top six athletes in teach Olympic event from the combined results of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, 2016 Olympic Games and 2016 U.S. Open.
Chadwick made the team in the 50 free, while Stevens earned a spot in the 100 back.
"Qualifying for the USA Swimming National Team in an Olympic year is an impressive accomplishment, as every swimmer in the country is aiming to perform at their best at the Olympic Trials and beyond. This team represents the best of the best in the United States," said Frank Busch, USA Swimming National Team Director.
Chadwick made the National Team in the 50 free after placing in the 50 free at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June, where he swam a 21.96. As a junior for Mizzou in 2015-16, Chadwick earned four All-America first team and three honorable mention honors at the NCAA Championships. He placed fourth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free at the Championship and swam on five Tiger relays at the meet, including the fourth-place 400 medley and seventh-place 200 free relay teams. Chadwick enters his senior season as the most decorated Tiger in program history with a total of six first team and nine honorable mention All-America accolades.
For the second consecutive season, Stevens earned a spot on the National Team in the 100 back. She finished fifth in the event at the Olympic Trials after a 59.97 time in the finals. Last season Stevens claimed one first team and two honorable mention All-America honors as a sophomore. She was a member of Mizzou's sixth-place 400 medley relay team and took 14th individually in the 100 back at the NCAA Championships.
