Tigers also garner No. 28 preseason ranking by AVCA
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Following a standout 2015 campaign, Mizzou Volleyball enters the upcoming 2016 season with high expectations. The talented Tigers have recently garnered attention by the media, as they were tabbed No. 17 in the preseason PrepVolleyball.com poll and No. 28 in the preseason American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll.
Mizzou went 27-6 overall last season with an impressive 14-4 record in Southeastern Conference play. The Tigers finished in second place in the SEC standings, marking its highest conference finish since 2013.
The Tigers' strong regular season performance last year earned a No. 25 ranking by the AVCA on Nov. 30, 2015. Heading into the upcoming 2016 campaign, Mizzou fell just outside the preseason AVCA Top 25 rankings, earning 97 total votes among submitted ballots (third-highest among teams receiving votes).
PrepVolleyball.com, a leading Division I NCAA Volleyball media outlet, also recognized the Tigers' strong roster with a No. 17 preseason ranking.
Head Coach Wayne Kreklow returns 11 letterwinners and six starters from a season ago. Three AVCA All-Americans headline the Tigers' 2016 roster, as senior Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii), redshirt junior Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.) and sophomore Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) all return to the lineup.
Mizzou opens its 2016 campaign from Aug. 26-27 at the Kennesaw State Invitational. The Tigers return to Mid-Missouri from Sept. 2-3 for the Tiger Invitational.
