Tigers remain in 13th place heading into final round
SHOAL CREEK, Ala. – Mizzou Women's Golf shot a total of 318 (+30) in the second round of the NCAA Regional at the Shoal Creek Golf Club on Friday. Freshman Emma Allen (Southampton, England) carded a 74 (+2), which included three birdies and scores of 37 on each side of the course.
Allen is 9-over for the tournament and tied for 25th individually. The Tigers remain in 13th place as a team heading into Saturday's final round. The top six teams and three individuals will advance to the NCAA national championships on May 20-25 in Eugene, Oregon.
"Again, the golf course was really tough and we had too many big numbers to make a move today," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "The leaderboard is still stacked up pretty close and we can make a move tomorrow. A lot of players in the field have felt defeated after walking off the course the last two days, but we can make a move if we stay patient and make good decisions in the final round.
"Emma was strong for us," Priesmeyer noted. "She made some birdies and struck the ball much better today."
Early on in the round, Mizzou climbed as high as sixth in the team standings before the challenging Shoal Creek course showed its difficulty.
Junior Jessica Meek (Carnoustie, Scotland) shot a second round 78 (+6). Freshman Amanda Kim (O'Fallon, Mo.) finished with an 82 (+10) while senior Michelle Butler (Dunedin, Fla.) and freshman Marit Harryvan (Winschoten, Netherlands) both shot 84 (+12).
Northwestern (+14) leads the tournament, followed by Florida State (+20), Oklahoma State (+22), Alabama (+30), Tennessee (+35), California (+38) and Michigan (+40). Matilda Castren of Florida State and Kacie Komoto of Northwestern are tied for the individual lead at 1-over par.
Mizzou's final round tee times begin at 8:24 a.m. CT on Saturday.
