@MizzouTennis Ends Road Trip with Loss to #4 Georgia

Following five match road trip, Mizzou returns home April 8 vs. Vanderbilt
ATHENS, Ga. – In its fifth straight match away from home, No. 71 Mizzou Tennis (15-8, 2-7 SEC) fell to No. 4 Georgia (15-2, 8-1 SEC), 4-0, on Saturday afternoon in Athens, Ga. Mizzou finishes its two-week road trip with a 2-3 record, improving to 15-8 on the season, the first time Mizzou has recorded 15 wins since 2004-05.
Georgia was awarded the doubles point following wins on courts one and three. At the No. 1 position, Georgia's top team, No. 25 ranked Ellen Perez and Mariana Gould, defeated junior Bea Machado Santos (Lisbon, Portugal) and sophomore Brianna Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.), 6-3. At No. 3, junior Brittany Lashway (Bradenton, Fla.) and junior Cassidy Spearman (Laguna Niguel, Calif) fell, 6-3, to Caroline Brinson and Laura Patterson.
Georgia clinched the match with three wins in singles play, coming at the No. 2, 4, and 6 positions. Each win came in straight sets, with ranked Bulldogs picking up wins on courts two and four. At No. 2, Kennedy Shaffer, ranked No. 56, defeated senior Kelli Hine (New Braunfels, Texas), 6-1, 6-2, while No. 27 ranked Caroline Brinson defeated Brittany Lashway, 6-1, 6-2, on court four. At No. 6, Laura Patterson defeated sophomore Clare Raley (Atlanta, Ga.), 6-1, 6-4.
Mizzou will return home to begin a four-match home stand on Friday, April 8 when the Tigers play host to Vanderbilt. First serve from the Mizzou Tennis Complex is slated to begin at 5 p.m. CT.
