@MIZ_TrackField will be back on Saturday for the Tom Botts Invitational and Senior Day
Tom Botts Results - Friday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Friday may have marked the first day of the Tom Botts Invitational in Columbia for the Tigers, but it was the Mt. SAC Relays in California that ruled the day. While the majority remained home this weekend to compete at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium on Friday (April 15) and Saturday (April 16), ten mid-distance and distance specialists made the trip to Walnut, California, for the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays. Their events, which started on Thursday, closed Friday evening with a total of six PR's and five All-Time Top Ten marks.
Eight Tigers also closed day one of Tom Botts with new personal record marks, including freshman Rebecca Keating, whose 57.07m (187-3) best in the hammer throw moved into No. 7 All-Time.
#MIZTF RECAP – MT. SAC RELAYS
There has been no shortage of record performances for the Tigers in California this weekend, as six of the ten student-athletes to make the trip will return home with new personal bests.
"We have enjoyed two fantastic nights of racing out here," Assistant Coach Marc Burns said. "The 10k crew got us started last night and the momentum carried over to tonight. Everybody ran really smart races with finding the right group early on in each race. We are really proud of the way all the Tigers competed this weekend!"
The women's 10,000m run kicked off events at Mt. SAC for the black and gold, with junior Kaitlyn Fischer making her season debut for the event with a tenth-place finish (34:10.30). Joining her in the field was freshman Jamie Kempfer, who made her Tiger debut in the 10k with the fourth-fastest time in school history, crossing in 13th in the elite section with a final time of 34:24.23.
The men's elite section was up next, with junior Ollie Lockley also making his Tiger debut in the event. Lockley's 29:41.88 crossing was good for 13th in the field, and No. 8 on the All-Time Top Ten list. Senior Dan Roe finished close behind, crossing with a new PR of 30:04.14 for 24th.
Sophomore Ellyn Atkinson closed Thursday's events with the women's open 10k, finishing in 35:21.46 for her event debut.
Record marks continued to fall on Friday starting with senior Will Crocker's 3:42.30 finish in the men's 1500m run. That time, which cut over a second off of his previous best, earned him a third-place finish in the elite section and the No. 2 position in the Mizzou history books. That crossing also put him well within qualification for the NCAA West Regional, as he ranks fourth in the most recent rankings, tenth in the NCAA.
Senior Sam Dickerson was up next, lining up for his second 3000m steeplechase of the season. His 8:53.83 finish was just off of his 8:51.69 PR and puts him in first for the most recent SEC rankings.
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, junior Teylar Adelsberger dropped 12-seconds off of her PR from the Florida Relays two weeks ago to cross in 10:12.39, only four-seconds off of the current school record. That finish, which put her in 12th for the field, is the No. 11 time in the most recent NCAA regional rankings, and No. 15 in the NCAA.
Sophomore Karissa Schweizer also dropped some serious time off of her PR, topping her previous best in the 5000m run by 34-seconds. Her 15:58.09 finish is the third-fastest in Mizzou history and puts her at No. 6 in the most recent national rankings.
#MIZTF RECAP – TOM BOTTS INVITATIONAL
Meanwhile, a group of Tigers kicked off the Tom Botts Invitational back in Columbia on Friday evening with competitions in the hammer throw, 1500m run, 5000m run, and 3000m steeplechase.
The men's hammer throw was first on the schedule for the day's events, with the foursome of junior Ahren Bohanan, senior Nick Sublett, junior Tanner Buschmann, and junior Sean Harrell all hitting new personal records in the event. Bohanan led the Tigers with his fourth-place finish, hitting a new top mark of 57.61m (189-0). Sublett was just behind with a 56.39 (185-0) toss, good for fifth in the field.
Next up in the ring was the women's competition, where freshman Rebecca Keating continued her steady climb through the Mizzou record books with her 57.07m (187-3) toss, good for No. 7 All-Time and fourth in the field.
Among the highlights out of the track events was a series of PR performances in the 1500m runs, starting with the women's race where freshman Kate Smith led the team with a ninth-place finish for her event debut (4:43.15). Closing in 19th in the field was fellow-freshman Elly DeTurris, whose 4:58.10 crossing was good for a new PR.
On the men's side, sophomore Mark Sheridan battled it out in the second section of the 1500m to earn a new PR of 3:56.90 and eighth overall. Also earning a new personal best was junior Brian Hernan (3:59.03).

#MIZTF NOTES - TOM BOTTS INVITATIONAL DAY TWO
- Among the names to look out for during this weekend's Tom Botts Invitational is freshman Kahmari Montgomery, who will make his outdoor debut in the 400m dash. The last time Montgomery took to the blocks in the event was at the NCAA Indoor Championship meet in March. The freshman closed his first indoor season as a Tiger with the SEC title in the event and one of the top ten times in the world (45.78).
- Senior Markesh Woodson will back for his second 100m dash of the season. His first came during last weekend's Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, Georgia, where he placed third in the elite section with the fifth-fastest time in NCAA yet this season, 10.20.
- The women's 400m dash is set to have quite the line-up of Tigers, including five past and present 4x400m relay school record holders - seniors Ayo Adewole and Erika Lark, juniors Sandrae Farquharson and LaQuisha Jackson, and freshman Maya Cody.
- In the women's pole vault, Alyssa Applebee is set to continue chasing a spot in the top two in Mizzou history. The junior tied her PR, and the No. 3 bar in school history, during last week's competition, placing second overall with a final mark of 4.05m (13-3.50). Joining her will be two fellow All-Time Top Ten members, freshmen Rayce Albino (No. 7) and Bri Gibbs (No. 10).
Although the events in California have come to a close for the Tigers, the team will be back in force for the second day of the Tom Botts Invitational at Audrey J. Walton Stadium in Columbia. Events will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the pole vault with track events set to begin at 1 p.m. For the latest on Mizzou Track & Field, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
