The Tigers currently sit in sixth-place with 81 points
ATLANTA – The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team notched two fourth-place finishes, including a program high relay finish, to highlight day two action at the 2016 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday in Atlanta, Ga. The Tigers currently sit in sixth-place with 81 points with two days of competition remaining.
Junior Michael Chadwick (50 free) and the 400 medley relay team both tallied fourth-place finishes during Thursday action. The relay placement set a new program best for the men, besting the old high of sixth set a year ago in the 200 free relay. Additionally, Chadwick took tied the highest finish ever for a men's swimmer, matching Sam Tierney's 100 breast finish a year ago and Kevin DeForrest's 50 free finish in 1979.
Chadwick claimed the second individual first team All-America honor of his career after placing fourth in the 50 free, bettering his ninth-place finish from a season ago. The junior clocked a school record 19.04 in finals to lower his prelims time of 19.06.
In the 400 medley relay, the Tiger team of junior Carter Griffin, juniors Fabian Schwingenschlogl and Andrew Sansoucie and Chadwick touched fourth in 3:06.99, just off their school record prelims swim of 3:06.66, to earn first team All-America honors.
The Tigers also claimed first team All-America honors in the 200 free relay, where Chadwick, junior Christian Aragona, senior Matthew Margritier and Sansoucie placed seventh in 1:16.97. Earlier in the day, the foursome clocked a school record time of 1:16.87 in prelims. The seventh-place finish also marked the first time in Mizzou history two relays earned first team All-America honors in the same Championships.
Day three action at the NCAA Championships begins Thursday with swimming prelims at 9 a.m. CT, diving prelims at 11 a.m. CT and finals at 5 p.m. CT.
