The Tigers took 11th as a team to best its previous high of 14th
ATLANTA – The Mizzou women's swimming and diving team finished a program-record 11th with 139 points at the 2016 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, which concluded Saturday (March 19) at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga. During the meet, Four Tigers earned individual first team All-America honors for the first time in school history, as redshirt senior Abby Duncan, junior Nadine Laemmler, sophomore Madeline McKernan and junior Katharine Ross, all earned top-eight finishes.
The 11th-place finish bested the previous high of 14th, set in the 2012, 2013 and 2015 seasons. Over the four-day event, Missouri posted five school records and tallied six top-eight placements, as the Tigers also earned first team All-America honors in the 200 and 400 medley relays to go along with the individual finishes.
McKernan became Mizzou's first-ever first team All-American on platform as the sophomore placed seventh on the event in her NCAA Championships debut. She scored a 280.30 in prelims to qualify for the championship final, then notched a finals score of 262.95 for seventh.
The Tigers earned big points in the 200 breast as well, as Ross and Duncan finished one-two in the consolation final for finishes of ninth and 10th, respectively.
Also earning All-America honorable mention honors on Saturday were Laemmler and sophomore Sharli Brady. Brady finished 13th in the 200 fly for her second-consecutive honorable mention honor in the event, while Laemmler finished 16th in the 200 back.
Sophomore Hannah Stevens narrowly missed a spot in the 200 back consolation final after placing 17th in prelims, while Mizzou's 400 free relay team of senior Anna Patterson, Stevens, sophomore Rachel Hayden and freshman Maddie Gehrke also took 17th in a school record time of 3:15.99.
Additionally, Patterson concluded her Tiger career with a 26th-place finish in the 100 free in 48.86.
