The Tigers-RedHawks tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network +. The Tigers' games on SEC Network + are available on WatchESPN to SEC Network subscribers such as AT&T U-Verse, Charter, Comcast, Cox, DirecTV and Dish.
- Head coach Kim Anderson's squad will match up against Miami (Ohio) for the first time in program history on Tuesday. Mizzou has built a 10-2 overall record against programs from the Mid-American Conference.
- Freshman guard Frankie Hughes leads the Tigers in scoring at 14.1 points per game, while sophomore forward Kevin Puryear leads on the boards with 6.1 rebounds per game.
- The Tigers have shown early on that a number of different teammates can be depended upon to score, as eight different Mizzou players have scored at least 10 points in a game, and four different players have scored at least 20.
- Mizzou is once again cultivating a talented, but young roster during the 2016-17 season. According to KenPom.com, the Tigers rank 346th out of 351 NCAA Division I teams in terms of experience.
OPPONENT - MIAMI (OHIO)
- Miami (Ohio) enters Mizzou Arena with a .500 record at 4-4, winning two of its last three games. Miami defeated Western Illinois (81-72) on Nov. 26 and Grambling (78-76, OT) on Nov. 30 before falling to Fort Wayne (87-71) in its most recent game on Dec. 3.
- The RedHawks, led by head coach John Cooper, opened the season with a home win over Muskingum (84-57) on Nov. 11 before falling to Wright State (89-87) on Nov. 15 and Delaware (68-66) on Nov. 18. Three of Miami's four losses were by 10 points or less.
- Two players from Miami are averaging double-figures in scoring led by freshman guard Michael Weathers, who is averaging 21.6 points per game and is shooting 46.9 percent (53-of-113) from the field. Weathers has scored 20 or more points in five games this season, including a 31-point performance against Northern Kentucky on Nov. 20. Redshirt sophomore guard Jake Wright is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game.
- On the boards, Michael Weathers leads the way with 5.9 rebounds per game, while his twin brother, freshman forward Marcus Weathers is close behind with 5.6 rebounds per game. Marcus Weathers leads the team in offensive rebounds with 14 on the season.
- Miami has averaged 76.6 points and 38.4 rebounds per game through eight games, allowing 74.8 points and 37.6 rebounds per game to its opponents. Foes of the RedHawks have shot 41.1 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from the three-point line.
DEFENDING DEEP RANGE
- Mizzou is holding opponents to 62.4 points per game through the seven games its played thus far in the 2016-17 season, a strong improvement from the 69.9 points allowed through the same number of contests last season.
- Standing out for head coach Kim Anderson's group has been its defensive effort on the perimeter. The Tigers are holding its foes to 24.7 percent three-point field goal shooting (95-of-141), a mark that ranks first nationally, according to KenPom.com.
- The Tigers' defense would be aided by the Black & Gold offense returning to scoring as fluidly as it did through the first five games of the season (77.4 points per game). Mizzou has averaged 55.5 points over the last two contests.
HUGHES HITTING SHOTS FOR MIZZOU
- Freshman guard Frankie Hughes (Cleveland, Ohio) was big once again for Mizzou in the Tigers' 59-56 win over Western Kentucky (Dec. 3), scoring 18 points on 5-of-15 overall field goal shooting.
- Hughes has two games this season with four-or-more three-point makes, a mark that already matches him with Mizzou's team-leading total from last season.
