COLUMBIA, Mo. – Four Mizzou Wrestling grapplers will take the stage on Saturday at the 51st National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Redshirt sophomore 165-pounder Daniel Lewis (Blue Springs, Mo.), redshirt senior 149-pounder Lavion Mayes (Mascoutah, Ill.) and redshirt junior Barlow McGhee (Rock Island, Ill.) will compete in main event bouts, while redshirt junior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee (Reno, Nev.) competes in a showcase exhibition bout.
Wrestling is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. (CT), with the main event slated for 6 p.m. (CT). For fans interested in viewing the All-Star Classic, TrackWrestling.com will provide a stream available for $9.99. More information can be found here.
The trio of Lewis, Mayes and McGhee will be the 12th, 13th and 14th wrestlers in Mizzou history to compete in the All-Star Classic. Tiger wrestlers are 7-4 all-time at the All-Star Classic, with two-time NCAA All-American Alan Waters registering the last win in 2014 over Virginia Tech's Joey Dance. Last year, redshirt-junior 184-pounder Willie Miklus (Altoona, Iowa) defeated Hunter Gamble, Jr. (Gardner-Webb), 5-2, in a showcase exhibition bout.
Lewis, who earned All-America honors and was named the 2016 MAC Freshman of the Year last year, draws Isaac Jordan (Wisconsin) in his bout, the first matchup between the two wrestlers. Mayes, a two-time All-American, will face Anthony Collica (Oklahoma State) in a rematch of last year's NCAA Championships third-place match. Collica upended Mayes in the quarterfinals in New York before Mayes defeated Collica, 3-2, to take third at the NCAAs. McGhee, who went 24-9 last season and captured the 125-pound MAC Championship, will face Nathan Kraisser (Campbell) in his All-Star Classic matchup. This will be the first meeting between the two wrestlers.
In the showcase bouts, Lavallee matches up against Richie Lewis (Rutgers). Lavallee, a two-time NCAA qualifier in 2013 and 2014, returns to the Tiger lineup following a redshirt season.
Mizzou officially kicks off the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 13, with a road dual against Old Dominion.
