COLUMBIA, Mo. – Senior Melanie Donaldson (Florissant, Missouri) and freshman Sarah Luebbert (Jefferson City, Missouri) of the Mizzou soccer team were named to the 2016 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's All-South Region teams, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Tuesday. Donaldson earned a spot on the second team while Luebbert was named to the third team.
Donaldson and Luebbert are the 15th and 16th Mizzou soccer players to earn All-Region honors from the NSCAA and mark the fifth-consecutive season a Tiger landed on one of the teams. Additionally, Luebbert is only the second Mizzou freshman to claim a spot on an All-Region team, joining Alysha Bonnick in 2007.
Donaldson's NSCAA honor joins her selection to the All-SEC first team this season. As a senior in 2016, she has started all 19 games she played and tallied three goals and one assist for seven points. Donaldson has played every minute of eight games as a defensive midfielder, all of which have come over the last 12 contests. In her career, she has started 77 of the 80 games she has played as a Tiger and had 23 points on nine goals and five assists.
The 2016 SEC Freshman of the Year and All-SEC second team selection, Luebbert led the Tigers with 24 points on 10 goals and four assists during her freshman campaign. Her point and goal totals were the most for a Tiger since Kristin Andrighetto had 27 and 10 in 2009 and ranked second on both Mizzou's all-time freshman points and goals lists. Additionally, Luebbert finished the season ranked fifth among SEC players in goals per game (0.56) and sixth in points per game (1.33).
