COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 22 Mizzou Volleyball (23-5, 14-2 SEC) begins its final week of the 2016 regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Georgia. First serve between the Tigers and Bulldogs is set for 6 p.m. (CT) and the match will broadcast live on SEC Network + via WatchESPN.
The Tigers control their own destiny in search of their second SEC Championship in the past four years. Mizzou will claim at least a share of the 2016 title with victories Wednesday at Georgia and Saturday versus Tennessee at the Hearnes Center.
Series Snapshot vs. Georgia
- The all-time series is tied, 4-4.
- Georgia leads the series in all-time matches played in Athens, Ga., 2-1.
- In the last meeting, Mizzou claimed a 3-0 victory over Georgia on Oct. 18, 2015, in Athens, Ga.
Mizzou Takes Down No. 5 Florida
- Mizzou closed its key weekend in SEC play with a thrilling 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-10) victory over No. 5 Florida on Sunday.
- The Tigers' win moved them back atop the SEC standings with only two matches remaining in the 2016 regular season.
- Additionally, the Tigers have now claimed three consecutive wins over a Top 10 nationally ranked Florida Gators team at the Hearnes Center.
- Sunday's exciting triumph joins the Tigers' wins in years past over then-No. 9 Florida (Sept. 30, 2015) and then-No. 2 Florida (Oct. 20, 2013).
Tigers Two Wins Away From Conference Title
- Mizzou once again controls its own destiny in search of its second SEC Championship in the past four seasons (SEC Champions in 2013).
- The Tigers can claim at least a share of the conference title with wins against Georgia (Nov. 23) and Tennessee (Nov. 26) this upcoming week.
- Mizzou currently joins Florida and Kentucky with two SEC losses this season, but holds head-to-head tiebreakers over both programs.
- If the three teams finish the season with two conference losses apiece, they would each be claimed 2016 SEC Co-Champions, but Mizzou would earn the SEC's automatic qualifier bid for the NCAA Tournament.
Mizzou Climbs National Rankings
- Following its perfect 2-0 week and superb victory over No. 5 Florida on Sunday, Mizzou continued to climb the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll and NCAA RPI rankings.
- The Tigers moved from No. 25 to No. 22 in the AVCA Poll on Monday, while jumping seven spots from No. 14 to No. 7 in the NCAA RPI.
Crow & Munlyn Earn SEC Weekly Honors
- Redshirt junior Melanie Crow (Wildwood, Mo.) and sophomore Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) garnered Week 13 SEC Player of the Week accolades, as announced Monday by the league office.
- Crow was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Munlyn was the SEC Defensive Player of the Week.
- Monday afternoon's recognition marked Crow's fourth honor by the conference office this season, including her third SEC Offensive Player of the Week accolade.
- Crow was sensational last week, exploding for 4.67 kills per set, .352 hitting percentage, 0.67 blocks per set and 5.33 points per set. She tallied 20-plus kills in each of the Tigers' matches against Auburn and No. 5 Florida with .340-plus hitting in each outing as well.
- Monday's honor marked Munlyn's third recognition by the SEC office this year and the seventh SEC weekly honor in her career.
- This past week, the Tiger middle blocker produced a team-leading 13 total blocks and 1.44 blocks per set, while also adding 17 kills on .405 hitting on offense.
- Her standout day on defense against Florida gave her 139 total blocks this season, ranking T-2nd most total blocks in a single season in Mizzou Volleyball history.
