LEXINGTON, Ky. – Mizzou Volleyball earned its third consecutive American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, as announced Monday by the AVCA. The Tigers produced outstanding success throughout the 2015-16 academic year, highlighted by a cumulative 3.57 GPA over the Spring 2016 semester.
A record 762 total teams earned the 2015-16 AVCA Team Academic Award. This year's total honorees breaks the previous record of 757 teams set in 2014-15.
"We really have a special group of student-athletes both on-and-off the court," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "It's really tough to win this award for three consecutive years and it truly shows these ladies' commitment to academic excellence. I'm very proud of their accomplishments in the classroom and they continue to be amazing representatives of the University of Missouri."
The AVCA Team Academic Award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Mizzou Volleyball was among the 131 total NCAA Division I programs to be honored for their exceptional academic success.
The Tigers' cumulative 3.57 Spring 2016 GPA established itself as the highest GPA in program history. Additionally, it marked the highest team GPA among the 18 intercollegiate athletics programs on Mizzou's campus.
Mizzou Volleyball has enjoyed outstanding academic success over the past decade. Since 2004, the Tigers have exceeded a 3.00 cumulative GPA in 21-of-25 combined Fall and Spring semesters.
