COLUMBIA, Mo. – Numerous Mizzou Wrestling grapplers competed in the Roger Denker Open on Sunday, in Warrensburg, Mo. 15 wrestlers finished in the top-four positions, including two who won individual championships, freshman 133-pounder Jaydin Eierman (Columbia, Mo.) and freshman 141-pounder Will Roark (Seneca, Mo.).
In the 133-pound weight class, Eierman earned a fall and two technical falls to advance to the championship match, where he squared off against fellow Mizzou wrestler, redshirt freshman 133-pounder John Erneste (Kansas City, Mo.). Eierman beat his Tiger teammate by way of a major decision, 10-2, to claim the open title. The title was Eierman's third open championship of the season, after winning the Joe Parisi Open on Nov. 21 and the UNI Open on Dec. 12. After four wins on Sunday, Eierman is now 22-2 on the season.
Roark used a fall, major decision, and decision to advance to the championship match of the 141-pound weight class where he also wrestled a Tiger teammate, redshirt junior 141-pounder Cole Baumgartner (Jefferson City, Mo.). The two Mizzou grapplers battled a close, hard fought match, with Roark winning by a slim, 5-2, margin. The title was Roark's third on the season, after winning the UCM Open on Nov. 7 and the Maryville Kaufman Brand Open on Nov. 14.
In addition to Erneste and Baumgartner, four other Tigers finished second on the day, including redshirt sophomore 125-pounder Aaron Assad (Brecksville, Ohio), freshman 157-pounder Keegan McCormick (Lee's Summit, Mo.), redshirt junior 165-pounder Matt Lemanowicz (Lee's Summit, Mo.), and freshman 174-pounder Dylan Wisman (Winchester, Va.).
Third place finishes included freshman Chandler Fohey (Hannibal, Mo.), freshman 149-pounder Austin Eveler (Lee's Summit, Mo.), and freshman 184-pounder Jayden Bears (Staley, Mo.). Freshman 149-pounder Alex Butler (Rockford, Ill.), redshirt freshman 174-pounder Tim Miklus (Altoona, Iowa), freshman 184-pounder Dalton Voyles, and freshman 197-pounder Seth Pesek (Gardner, Kan.) all finished in fourth for Mizzou.
