COLLEGE STATION, Tx. - Mizzou Cross Country is in College Station this weekend for their third meet of the 2015 season, previewing the course that will host the SEC Championships in October during the Texas A&M Invitational. Events at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course will begin at 8:15 am CT with the men's 8k, followed by the women's 6k at 9 am CT.
THE MEET
The year-old Dale Watts Course, which is a cross country-only venue, will be the site of both the SEC and South Central Regional Championship meets later this season. The field will feature both Texas A&M and LSU from the SEC, as well as several South Central Region teams including Texas, who is ranked 27th in the latest USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) women's national poll.
TIGER MEN
Junior Jordan Cook and sophomore Marc Dubrick are returning to the line after leading the team at the Forest Park XC Festival two weeks ago. The pair had an exciting season debut during the meet in St. Louis, placing second and third in the field to help guide the Tigers to a near-perfect 17-point tally. Also returning to the course after their scoring efforts at Forest Park are sophomore Evan Schulte, sophomore Sheldon Keence, and junior Ian McGinn.
A pair of Tiger men will also be making their season debut, with junior Dan Roe returning to the course for the first time since earning an All-SEC finish last year, and freshman Thomas George donning the black and gold for the first time.
Rounding out the men's roster will be junior Will Crocker, who led the men during the season opener against Illinois, junior Chandler Dye, and junior Luca Russo.
TIGER WOMEN
On the women's side, sophomore Karissa Schweizer will be back in action after taking the individual win during the Forest Park XC Festival. Joining her will be Kate Smith, who will return to the line for the first time after leading the women at the season opener against Illinois, and freshman Kelli Jackson, who has kicked off her Tiger career with a pair of top three finishes for the black and gold.
Joining them on the line will be junior Teylar Adelsberger and Sam Garrett, who both helped the Tigers to a 17-point scoring two weeks ago to take the team win.
Sophomore Ellyn Atkinson, freshman Elly DeTurris, sophomore Jamie Kempfer, junior Nicole Mello, and freshman Hannah Thomas close out the Tigers' roster for Saturday.
HEAR FROM COACH BURNS
"We are looking forward to competing at Texas A&M this weekend and getting a first-hand look at the SEC Championship course. We believe that the familiarity with the area and course will help us on October 30 when we compete at the conference championshp meet. It will be exciting for us to see some teams that we don't normally see throughout the year, as well. Our goal is to continue to build momentum as a team as we enter the counting period of the season. This weekend, Notre Dame, and the NCAA Pre-National Meet will be key opportunities to prepare for the championship season, and we'll hopefully beat some good teams along the way. We have enjoyed some outstanding training over the last ten days, and we will be ready to battle this weekend."
