#UCONNvsMIZZ Post-Game Notes

TEAM

  • Mizzou's defense held the UConn offense to 95 total yards in the first half. It was the second consecutive half of the Tiger defense holding an opponent under the 100-yard mark. Mizzou's defenders allowed just 37 yards to Arkansas State's offense in the second half in the 27-20 win on Sept. 12.
  • The 95 yards allowed were the lowest the Mizzou defense has allowed in a first half since allowing just 61 first-half yards at Florida last season (Oct. 11, 2014).
  • Mizzou's announced attendance of 70,079 was its largest of the 2015 season and the most since 71,168 fans packed into Memorial Stadium for the Tigers' 21-14 victory over Arkansas last season (Nov. 28, 2014).

OFFENSE

  • Junior QB Maty Mauk scored a rushing touchdown for the fourth time in his career with a 2-yard, roll-out keeper with 5:03 left in the third quarter to give Mizzou a 9-6 lead.
  • Mauk completed a 51-yard pass to senior TB Tyler Hunt near the close of the third quarter. The pass completion was Mizzou's second of 50 or more yards this season, with the first also a completion to Hunt – a 78-yard touchdown toss from freshman QB Drew Lock vs. SEMO (Sept. 5).
  • Junior WR Eric Laurent snagged his first career catch during fourth-quarter action, hauling in a 4-yard toss from Lock.
  • Sophomore TB Ish Witter had 17 carries on the afternoon for a new career high.

DEFENSE

  • Senior LB Kentrell Brothers has led Mizzou's defense in tackles (10) through the first three games of the 2015 season. He built a leading-tackler streak of six games down the stretch of the 2014 season, beginning with the game vs. Vanderbilt (Oct. 25, 2014) and ending with the SEC Championship Game vs. Alabama (Dec. 6, 2014).
  • Junior DT Josh Augusta matched a career-high in TFL with 2.0, equaling his effort as a freshman vs. Murray State (Aug. 31, 2013).
  • Sophomore S Anthony Sherrils recorded his first career forced fumble and fumble recovery on the same play with 12:55 left in the second quarter.
  • Sherrils completed the trifecta with his first career interception to seal the win for Mizzou on a UConn fake field goal attempt with under one minute remaining in the game, returning it 50 yards from the Mizzou 13-yard line to the UConn 37-yard line.
  • Freshman DE Walter Brady notched the first sack of his career during the second quarter, resulting in a loss of nine yards. It was his third tackle-for-loss on the season.
  • Brady picked up his second sack with 1:19 left in the first half and secured the first multi-sack game of his career.
  • Junior LB Donavin Newsom made one of the plays of the first half with a pass break up on a UConn 4th-and-8 pass attempt from the Mizzou 23-yard line. It was Newsom's first PBU of the season and second of his career.
  • Sophomore DE Charles Harris recorded his team-leading third sack of the season in the third quarter.

SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Freshman punter Corey Fatony placed his sixth punt inside-the-20 this season with a 51-yard boot that was downed at the UConn 2-yard line at 9:09 in the first quarter.
  • Mizzou recorded its first safety since the 2010 season (vs. Colorado) when junior LB Clarence Green blocked a UConn punt out of the back of the end zone at the 7:44 mark of the first quarter.
  • It was Mizzou's first safety off of an opponent punt since the 2009 season vs. Nebraska.
  • After a UConn touchdown at 4:14 in the first quarter, Brothers recorded Mizzou's first PAT block of the 2015 season. It was Mizzou's first PAT block since Harold Brantley recorded a block on an attempt at Florida last season (Oct. 18, 2014).
  • The blocked punt was the first of Green's career and the blocked PAT was Brothers' second blocked kick this season and of his career. Brothers' first block was on a SEMO (Sept. 5) punt that resulted in an Aarion Penton 41-yard touchdown return.
