Upcoming tournament serves as first qualifier for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former Mizzou Volleyball All-American setter Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn.) was one of 14 players to make the final U.S. roster for the Federation Internationale De Volleyball (FIVB) World Cup, as announced Tuesday by U.S. Women's National Team Head Coach Karch Kiraly. Kreklow is one of two setters on the team, joining Alisha Glass.
"Obviously I'm really excited to have this opportunity to continue to represent my country," Molly Kreklow said. "My goal has always been to be a national team setter, so this entire process has been a dream come true. I'm hoping to help our team win in whatever role the coaches have in mind for me. The goal is to help our team get to Rio de Janeiro, and I'm excited to see what's in store for us in Japan!"
The U.S. Women's National Team, ranked No. 1 in the world by the FIVB, are fresh off a gold medal win at the 2015 FIVB World Grand Prix. Beginning on Aug. 22, Kreklow and the U.S. National Team will look to finish either first or second at the FIVB World Cup and guarantee qualification into the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
"We're so proud of Molly and her continued success with the U.S. National Team," Mizzou Volleyball head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "This is another amazing opportunity for Molly and the U.S. Team to shine on an international stage. We'll be watching with a lot of excitement, as she gets even closer to her Olympic aspirations."
The FIVB World Cup schedule consists of 11 round-robin matches with teams traveling to three different Japanese cities over the course of 16 days (Aug. 22-Sept. 6). Team USA opens the World Cup in Matsumoto against Korea on Aug. 22.
