COLUMBIA, Mo. - Junior Carter Griffin (Parker, Colo.), sophomore Jordy Groters (Oranjestad, Aruba) former All-American Dominique Bouchard and Mizzou head swimming coach Greg Rhodenbaugh will represent their respective countries at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, next week. Bouchard will swim for her home country of Canada, Groters will represent Aruba, Griffin will compete for the United States and Rhodenbaugh will serve as an assistant with USA Swimming's contingent at the games.
Griffin, who was selected to the team based on his sixth-place finish in the 200 back at last summer's Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships, will swim the same event at the games. Prelims action for the 200 back start on Wednesday, July 15 at 10:16 a.m. CT, with A and B finals that evening.
As a sophomore in 2014-15, Griffin earned two All-America honorable mention accolades after an 11th-place finish in the 200 back and a 10th-place finish as part of Mizzou's 400 medley relay team at the NCAA Championships. He also earned All-SEC second team honors this past season after earning runner-up honors in the 200 back at the 2015 SEC Championships and was named to the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll. Griffin's Mizzou 200 back record of 1:40.17 is more than two and a half seconds better than second-place on the list. He holds a LCM career best of 1:58.87.
Bouchard earned her ticket to the Pan American Games after sweeping the 100 and 200 back events at the 2015 Canadian Swimming Trials. She currently ranks 10th in the world in the 200 back (2:08.99) and 14th in the 100 back (1:00.20), both career best times set in 2015. In addition to her inclusion in the Pan American Games, Bouchard also earned a spot on Canada's FINA World Championships team.
An eight-time All-American for Mizzou, including four first team honors, Bouchard was the NCAA Championships 200 back runner-up in 2011 and 2013 and placed third at NCAAs in 2012. The North Bay, Ontario, native holds Missouri's 100 back (52.02) and 200 back (1:50.06) marks.
Groters will compete the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM at Pan Ams next week. The sophomore, who holds Aruban records in the 50, 100 and 200 breast, ranks sixth all-time at Mizzou in the 100 breast and seventh in the 200 breast.
