Four Tigers earned 2016 Olympic Trials in Saturday’s intrasquad

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Four members of the Mizzou men's and women's swimming teams qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials during a LCM intrasquad meet on Saturday, May 9 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
Outgoing senior Sam Tierney, sophomores Michael Chadwick and Carter Griffin and freshman Hannah Stevens all hit cuts for next year's Olympic Trials.
Tierney earned cuts in both the 100 and 200 breast events while winning both races. He posted a 1:01.54 in the 100 and a 2:17.62 in the 200. USA Swimming's time standards for the two events are 1:03.69 and 2:18.39, respectively.
Chadwick excelled in the spring free events, swimming a 23.11 in the 50 free and a 50.48 in the 100 free to go below qualifying marks in both distances.
In the backstroke events, Griffin clocked a 56.08 in the 100 and 2:02.56 to go under qualifying cuts in both races.
Additionally, Stevens swam a 1:02.03 in the 100 back to also earn herself a Olympic Trials cut.
The 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials take place June 26-July 3, 2016, at the CenturyLink Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb. The eight-day competition serves as the sole qualifier for U.S. pool swimmers for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Only long-course meters times are considered for Trials qualification.
