Tim Jamieson's Tigers are ranked nationally headed into week six.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Fresh off of its first ever SEC series sweep, Mizzou baseball (15-4, 3-0 SEC) found itself ranked No. 26 nationally in this week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30, as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Monday (March 16). In addition to being ranked by Collegiate Baseball, Mizzou is also receiving votes in both the USA Today Coaches Poll and the National College Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) Top 30.
Mizzou is off to its best 19-game start since 2008 at 15-4 overall this season. The Tigers, behind a pitching staff that allowed just five runs over a three-game span, are coming off of a three-game sweep of Georgia in their SEC-opener in Athens last weekend. It was Mizzou's first ever SEC series sweep and it was the Tigers first road conference sweep since 2009.
At 3-0, the Tigers are perched atop the SEC East standings, tied with nationally-ranked Vanderbilt and South Carolina, the latter of which comes to Taylor Stadium for a three-game series this weekend. It will be the first time since 2009 that two ranked teams will play a three-game conference series at Taylor Stadium. The three-game set begins Friday at 6 p.m. on SEC Network-Plus.
The Tigers rank first or second in the SEC in virtually every pitching category this season, highlighted by league-leading marks in both opponent batting and runs allowed per game. Mizzou is also second in the SEC in ERA, hits allowed and walks allowed.
Mizzou will be back home Tuesday and Wednesday for a two-game, midweek series against Air Force at Taylor Stadium. For all the latest on Mizzou baseball, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on twitter @MizzouBaseball.
