Mizzou's Kan, Larson and Munlyn Garner AVCA All-Region Honors

Junior Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii), redshirt sophomore Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.) and freshman Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) each earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Southeast Region honors, as announced Tuesday by the AVCA. Additionally, Munlyn was named the Southeast Region Freshman of the Year.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Junior Carly Kan (Honolulu, Hawaii), redshirt sophomore Kira Larson (Fargo, N.D.) and freshman Alyssa Munlyn (Suwanee, Ga.) each earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Southeast Region honors, as announced Tuesday by the AVCA. Additionally, Munlyn was named the Southeast Region Freshman of the Year.

With Tuesday's AVCA All-Region accolades, Kan, Larson and Munlyn will be in consideration for one of the four AVCA All-America teams. Mizzou has now had 24 AVCA All-Region selections since Wayne and Susan Kreklow took over the program in 2000, 13 of which have come since 2010.

"All three of these ladies did an outstanding job in 2015 and it's great to see them continue to get recognized," head coach Wayne Kreklow said. "Alyssa, Carly and Kira played a big role in our success this season. Those three really stepped up every day in practice and in the locker room. I'm very proud of these three and it's very well-deserved honors."

Wednesday's recognition is Kan's third AVCA All-Southeast Region honor. The Mizzou OH has claimed All-Region accolades in each of her first three seasons, becoming just one of six current juniors in the NCAA and the first Tiger in program history to accomplish the feat.

Kan's 491 kills and 563.5 points ranked second-best in the conference. Additionally, her 3.84 kills per set and 4.40 points per set ranked third-highest in the SEC. Kan tallied eight 20-plus kill matches and 18 double-doubles (tied for most in SEC) this season. Her 491 kills marked the seventh-most in a single-season in program history.

The Honolulu native opened the Tigers' 2015 season with four consecutive Tournament MVP honors, keying the team's 12-0 start to the year. During her impressive opening stretch, Kan earned SEC Player of the Week honors on Sept. 14 and garnered SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week recognition on Sept. 21.

Larson entered the 2015 campaign as one of six newcomers and quickly solidified herself as one of the Tigers' top performers. The Mizzou RS was a model of consistency throughout the year, posting double-digit points in 24 of 33 matches. Larson recorded 10-plus kills 14 times while hitting better than .300 in 16 matches.

The Fargo native reset career highs in every statistical category in 2015. Larson posted a career-high 17 kills on Nov. 25 vs. Texas A&M, hit better than .400 on 10 different occasions and tallied a season-high 19.5 points on Oct. 28 vs. Alabama. Larson joined Kan as Tigers to be named to all four All-Tournament Teams this season.

Munlyn is the first Tiger to receive AVCA Regional Freshman of the Year honors since Kan garnered the award in 2013. Additionally, she becomes the fourth AVCA Regional Freshman of the Year in program history, joining Jessica Vander Kooi (2002), Molly Kreklow (2010) and Kan (2013). Munlyn is the only freshman named to the 2015 All-Southeast Region Team.

Overall this season, Munlyn placed in both the top-10 in conference hitting percentage (seventh / .357) and blocks per set (fourth / 1.16). In SEC play, Munlyn took her game to another level, recording 147 kills on .431 hitting with 89 total blocks (1.25 per set).

In SEC matches, Munlyn's .431 hitting percentage ranked third in the conference while her 1.25 blocks per set ranked fourth-best. The Suwanee native's 149 total blocks this season were the most in a single-season in program history. Additionally, her 1.16 blocks per set ranked eighth-highest in a single-season in Tiger history.

Munlyn has also received 2015 All-SEC, 2015 SEC Freshman of the Year, 2015 SEC All-Freshman Team and four SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season.
