@MizzouTennis Visits Champaign to Compete in Midwest Blast

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Mizzou Tennis will finish its fall schedule when it heads to Champaign, Illinois, for the Midwest Blast. The tournament will take place Friday, Nov. 6-Sunday, Nov. 8, hosted at the Atkins Tennis Center.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Mizzou Tennis will finish its fall schedule when it heads to Champaign, Illinois, for the Midwest Blast. The tournament will take place Friday, Nov. 6-Sunday, Nov. 8, hosted at the Atkins Tennis Center.

Four teams will compete in the weekend dual, located on the University of Illinois' campus. Joining Mizzou will be host school Illinois, Notre Dame and Purdue. The Tigers open competition on Friday morning with a doubles-match against Illinois at 9 a.m., followed by another doubles-match with Notre Dame at 10 a.m. Mizzou opens singles play Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. with a match against Purdue. On Saturday, the Tigers will have one singles and one doubles match, followed by a singles match on Sunday morning to wrap up the event.

The Tigers last competed in the ITA Central Regional in Stillwater, Oklahoma, from Oct. 16-18, where Mizzou tallied 18 victories in singles play and eight wins in doubles matches. Junior Cassidy Spearman paced Mizzou with five singles victories, while the doubles-team of senior Kelli Hine and junior Bea Machado Santos advanced to the semi-final of the doubles draw.

Six Tigers on head coach Sasha Schmid's roster will compete in the dual over the weekend, including Spearman and Machado Santos. Joining the two will be sophomore Brianna Lashway, junior Brittany Lashway, sophomore Clare Raney and freshman Turner Yates.
