@MizzouMensGolf Snags Top Recruits for 2016-17 Season

Mizzou Men's Golf has inked two standout future student-athletes, landing Indian Hills Community College standout, Trevor Ullestad, and Scottish prodigy Rory Franssen.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Men's Golf has inked two standout future student-athletes, landing Indian Hills Community College standout, Trevor Ullestad, and Scottish prodigy Rory Franssen.

Ullestad, who hails from Jewell, Iowa, is coming off of a 2014-15 freshman season in which he helped lead Indian Hills Community College to a Division I NJCAA title. Ullestad placed 16th overall at the NJCAA Championship. He was named an NJCAA All-American for his performance throughout last season.

The 2015-16 season has been more of the same for Ullestad. Now a sophomore, Ullestad's production has played a key role in IHCC's continued success, as the program is currently ranked second nationally.  He has already tallied another individual tournament win, helping Indian Hills overcome a seven-stroke deficit to tie for first at this season's NJCAA Fall Preview.

Ullestad brings a winning mentality with him to Mizzou, as he has won at both the JUCO level and at the high school level. His senior year of high school, he led South Hamilton High School to a Class 2A State Championship, and he also claimed the individual state tournament title.

"Trevor is one of the top-ranked junior college players in the country," head coach Mark Leroux said. "He has a lot of experience and a proven track record, which will undoubtedly make him an impact player for our squad next season."

Franssen, who currently golfs for the Inverness Club, is one of the best young golfers in Scotland.  He has already taken part in prominent European events, including a third-place finish at the Scottish Boys Strokeplay Championship, which is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country.  He shot blistering rounds of 72-69-72-69 to finish with a total score of 281, placing him just two strokes off of second, and eight strokes from first.

Franssen has also participated in other notable events, including the European Boy's Team Championship, and the Scottish Youths Championship, where he placed 11th.

"Rory has lots of high-level international experience," Leroux said. "This experience will help him make a smooth transition into college golf. He is one of the top ranked players in Scotland and plays for his country's under-18 team.  I believe he will come in and make an immediate contribution."

Both incoming golfers will help to bolster Mizzou's current roster, and will be a part of the bright future ahead for Mizzou Men's Golf.
