COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former Mizzou wrestler and current #TigerStyle volunteer assistant coach Drake Houdashelt has been named the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Missouri Chapter's Co-Person of the Year. Houdashelt shares the award with Oklahoma City University alumna and Sedalia, Missouri, native Emily Webster.
"This is a great honor for Drake," Mizzou Wrestling head coach Brian Smith said. "He takes a lot of pride in being a wrestler from the state of Missouri, who competed at the youth, high school and college level. Winning an NCAA title in St. Louis was the culminating event of an outstanding career. We are all very happy for Drake."
After capturing two state titles for Fort Zumalt West High School as a junior and senior, Houdashelt moved 90 miles to Columbia and picked up right where he left off. Houdashelt was a four-time NCAA qualifier, four-time conference champion and three-time All-American at Mizzou, compiling 134 total wins over four seasons.
He capped a legendary career with a stellar senior campaign, going 37-1 and capturing an NCAA Championship at 149 pounds. Houdashelt became the sixth national champion in Mizzou Wrestling history. After graduating as one of Mizzou's all-time greatest athletes, he continues to give back to his alma mater as an integral member of Smith's coaching staff.
Both he and Webster will be honored for their incredible accomplishments at the chapter's induction ceremony at 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia. Reservations to the ceremony must be made in advance. Individual banquet tickets can be purchased for $50, while tables of eight are available for $40.
