BOERNE, Texas – Mizzou Women's Golf shot a collective 4-under par during the second round of the Jim West Challenge on Monday. Senior Haelena Schwemmer (O'Fallon, Mo.) shot a career-low round of 70 (-2) while the three other qualifying scores for the Tigers were also at or under par as Mizzou moved up into a tie for seventh place.
"We had a real nice comeback today in the second round," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "I thought we played a lot more confident and focused. Haelena had her best round in competition as a Tiger, and we really needed that from her today."
Schwemmer recorded five birdies, including four on the front nine. Fellow senior Michelle Butler (Dunedin, Fla.) and freshman Emma Allen (Southampton, England) both shot 71 (-1) while junior Jessica Meek (Carnoustie, Scotland) continued her strong play with an even par 72.
"Michelle had a lot of great looks at birdie," Priesmeyer said. "Emma does what she does and bounced back with a low score for us after a tough round. Jess is really dialing in with her irons. She left a lot of birdie opportunities out there but is in a great position going into the final round tomorrow."
Meek is tied for 15th individually at even par through the first two rounds while Schwemmer is tied for 25th (+3) and Butler (+4) is tied for 29th.
The final round begins with an 8:30 a.m. CT shotgun start on Tuesday.
