COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou swimming and diving junior Michael Chadwick (Charlotte, N.C.) was one of 36 United States swimmers named to lead the U.S. against Europe's best in the seventh Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, set for Dec. 11-12 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
Chadwick, also a member of the USA Swimming 2015-16 National Team, was one of 17 men selected to the roster, which includes Olympic gold medalists Ryan Lochte, Nathan Adrian and Matt Grevers (brother of Mizzou assistant Andrew Grevers).
"The Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool is an exciting format for the athletes, fans and viewers, where our sport's most decorated athletes line up with some of USA Swimming's future stars," USA Swimming National Team Director Frank Busch said. "I'm looking forward to watching this group compete against a talented European roster, and the experience gained in Indianapolis will be key heading into an Olympic year."
The European roster is expected to be announced next week.
Chadwick burst onto the national scene this summer with breakout performances at the Athens Speedo Sectional and U.S. National Championships. The Mizzou junior ranks third among U.S. swimmers in the 100 free (48.87) and fifth in the 50 free (22.03) after stellar swims at the Speedo Sectional. At the Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships, Chadwick placed fourth in the 50 free and fifth in the 100 free.
As a sophomore in 2014-15, Chadwick earned All-America first team honors in the 50 free and as a part of Mizzou's 200 free relay team. He finished fourth in the 50 free and helped the Tigers place sixth in the 200 free relay, a program record finish. Chadwick also holds Mizzou's short course 50 (19.27), 100 free (42.29) and 200 free (1:34.47) records, all set last season.
The Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool will be contested in downtown Indianapolis over two sessions: Friday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. ET and Saturday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. ET. Adult all-session tickets cost $65, $50 and $35 depending on location; Children's (ages 12 and under) all-session tickets are $55, $40 and $25. Single-session tickets are also available beginning at $20 for adults and $15 for children. All tickets are for reserved seating. Tickets can be purchased via usaswimming.org.
This year will mark the seventh Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, held every other year since 2003. The U.S. is undefeated and holds a 6-0 all-time record in the competition.
Swimmers can compete in a maximum of six events (individual and relays), and each team may enter up to four swimmers per individual event and one relay. A running score will be kept combining the points earned by both women and men to determine the winning team.
Chadwick and the rest of the Tigers return to the pool Friday-Saturday, Nov. 6-7 for a two-day meet against Kentucky, Northwestern and Southern Illinois at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
