Game Notes

The Missouri Tigers (4-2 overall, 1-2 in SEC play) hit the road to begin a two-game road swing, with things starting off in Athens, Ga. this Saturday evening at the Georgia Bulldogs (4-2, 2-2).  Kickoff for the game is set for 6:30 p.m. (central time), with the game being televised on the SEC Network.
Mizzou is looking to bounce back from a 21-3 home defeat at the hands of SEC Eastern Division-leading Florida.  The Tiger defense played lights out against the Gators, after allowing a pair of 1st-quarter TD drives, shutting out Florida the final 46:01 (UF had a pick-six in the 3rd quarter for their only points of the game after the 1st).  Mizzou's offense showed promise early, taking their opening possession quickly downfield for a 1st-and-goal from the Gator 6-yardline, only to have the red zone possession stall out and end in a field goal to make it 7-3.  Florida answered with a TD drive to make it 14-3, and Mizzou couldn't muster enough offense to claw back into the game, as MU was just 1-of-14 on third downs on the evening, while losing the turnover battle, 2-0.

Georgia is also coming off of a tough defeat, as the Bulldogs held a 24-3 lead at Tennessee last Saturday, only to see the Volunteers mount a furious rally that led to a 38-31 Tennessee victory.  The Vols outgained Georgia by a 519-to-444 in total offense, and overcame two huge Georgia non-offensive scores, including a 96-yard fumble return and a 70-yard punt return.  The Bulldogs enter Saturday's contest on a two-game skid, as they fell 38-10 at home to Alabama the previous week.  Georgia opened the year at 4-0, including wins over Louisiana-Monroe (51-14) and at Vanderbilt (W, 31-14), followed by two more home wins over South Carolina (52-20) and Southern (48-6).

TIGERS LOOKING FOR BOUNCE BACK WIN
Mizzou has done a lot of winning under Head Coach Gary Pinkel of late, and along with that, fortunately hasn't had to deal with a lot of rebounding from defeats.  However, when the Tigers have stubbed their toes, they've shown a nice propensity for bouncing back and not letting one loss be the start of a losing streak.

The Tigers have won their last six games coming off of a defeat, dating back to 2013.  Here's a quick look at the current trend:

TIGERS LOOKING FOR BOUNCE BACK WIN
• Despite Florida's 21-3 win Saturday over Mizzou, the Tiger defense played much better than the final score might indicate at first glance.  The Gators scored only 14 points offensively, as their final TD of the game came on a 3rd-quarter pick six that accounted for the final score.  Prior to that, the Gators mustered only 14 points, on a pair of 1st-quarter TD drives (with both aided by 15-yard personal foul penalties on Mizzou).

• Florida netted TD drives of 75 and 82 yards on two of their first three possessions Saturday, but were held scoreless on offense the rest of the way.  In the Gators' other 12 possessions, Mizzou held them to just 180 yards on 57 plays, for an average of just 3.2 yards per snap.  Even with the pick six added to the point total, Florida was held well below their season scoring average of 34.4 points coming into the game, and the Gators' final offensive output of 337 yards was 57 yards below their average of 394 coming into the contest.

• Mizzou's disruptive defense had 9.0 tackles for loss against Florida on the night, including 5.0 QB sacks.  Florida came into the game allowing an average of just 2.0 QB sacks per outing.
