TORONTO – Mizzou swimming rising junior Carter Griffin (Parker, Colo.) and former All-American Dominique Bouchard both won silver medals in the 200 backstroke Wednesday night at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto at the CIBC Aquatics Centre and Field House.

Competing in his first-ever international competition, Griffin used a strong second half of his race to swim a personal best 1:58.18, claim the silver and ensure a one-two United States finish in the 200 back. The Parker, Colo., native was fourth at the halfway mark and third with just 50 meters remaining before splitting a 29.89 in the final 50 to touch second behind U.S. teammate Sean Lehane. Griffin entered finals with the second-fastest prelims time of 1:58.54, a then-personal best.

As a sophomore in 2014-15, Griffin earned two All-America honorable mention accolades after an 11th-place finish in the 200 back and a 10th-place finish as part of Mizzou's 400 medley relay team at the NCAA Championships. He also earned All-SEC second team honors this past season after earning runner-up honors in the 200 back at the 2015 SEC Championships and was named to the SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll. Griffin's Mizzou 200 back record of 1:40.17 is more than two and a half seconds better than second-place on the list.

Bouchard took the women's 200 back silver in a time of 2:09.74 behind fellow Canadian Hilary Caldwell. The former Tiger had the top prelims time in 2:09.59 but Caldwell, a former Olympian, earned the gold in finals.

An eight-time All-American for Mizzou, including four first team honors, Bouchard was the NCAA Championships 200 back runner-up in 2011 and 2013 and placed third at NCAAs in 2012. The North Bay, Ontario, native holds Missouri's 100 back (52.02) and 200 back (1:50.06) marks.
