| Summer Spotlight: Nicolle Lewis | |
What is your title? "Academic coordinator." How long have you been with Mizzou? "Four years." Can you tell us a little bit about your background and your relationship with Coach Pingeton? "I have known Coach P for the last 10 years. I played for Coach P at Illinois State for five years, then when Coach P and the staff came to Mizzou, I ended up coming down to visit the coaches and met my current boss and adviser and decided to come to Mizzou to complete my Ph.D. Coach P has been a huge inspiration and mentor in my life the last 10 years and she is the sole reason why I was able to move further from home to pursue my Ph.D. and career. Coach P and the entire staff are my family here in CoMo." What is your favorite memory while working in athletics? "I cannot decide on just one memory. Working with student-athletes in athletics is all about the process. Yes, it is beginning with the end in mind to ensure we are able to achieve the goal of graduation (or whatever the student-athlete wants to accomplish) but the small victories along the way is what I enjoy. It is the process that I appreciate and there are just too many memories I have had along the way to choose one." What are your women's basketball responsibilities? "I am in charge of monitoring all the women's basketball eligibility per NCAA regulations to ensure that they stay eligible and able to play the sport that they love. I am able to get to know them as people and create relationships with them in order to understand their goals and aspirations to ensure that we are on the same page to accomplish that goal. I have a high standard when it comes to academics, but it is always rewarding to see the girls accomplish their goals whether they be short-term or long-term." What are you most looking forward to this season? "I am excited to see the team continue to grow and improve. Coach P continues to do wonderful things here at Mizzou with the women's basketball program and I am ecstatic to be a part of what is to come. All of the girls have the right mentality, work ethic and passion to compete at the highest level in the SEC." Favorite Basketball Movie: "Coach Carter." Something few people know about you: "I just finished my dissertation defense and Ph.D. process here at Mizzou within Sport Psychology." Favorite App: "Instagram." Place I would most like to visit and why: "Switzerland, to ski in the Alps." What do you do in your spare time? "I hang out with friends and family. I am just starting to integrate myself back into society after the whole Ph.D. and dissertation process so that will be a challenge in itself." |
