COLUMBIA, Mo. - Five members of Mizzou wrestling were named to the 2015 NWCA All-Academic Team, as announced last Friday by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The five recipients tied Stanford for the most individuals to crack this year's list.
Redshirt senior Johnny Eblen (Graduate - Positive Coaching), sophomore Joey Lavallee (Health Science), redshirt freshman Willie Miklus(Psychology), redshirt sophomore Zach Synon (Business) and redshirt senior Alan Waters (Health Science) represented Mizzou wrestling among the 118 total student-athletes to be honored this year.
This marks the second major academic award for Eblen, Lavallee, Miklus and Synon this season, as they were also named to the 2015 Academic All-MAC team.
Mizzou joins Stanford with the most individual wrestlers to receive the NWCA All-Academic honor. The five grapplers from each squad tops Duke, Lehigh, Nebraska, Old Dominion, Penn State, Penn and South Dakota State who each had four representatives.
In all, 28 of the 118 NWCA All-Academic Team members were 2015 NCAA All-Americans, and half of the Division I champions and eight of the 20 wrestlers who competed in the finals in St. Louis this past season were represented.
