Birmingham, Ala. --Mizzou sophomore forward Jordan Frericks was awarded All-SEC Second Team Honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday (March 3). The award comes just one day after Frericks was named SEC Player of the week. The annual honor is the first for Frericks in her career. She is the fifth player under the direction of head coach Robin Pingeton to be named to an All-Conference first or second team and she is the fourth second-team honoree.
The Quincy, Ill., native has become an incredible asset on the floor for the Tigers this year. Averaging 9.7 rebounds per game, Frericks is second in the SEC in rebounds per game. She is also averaging 13.6 points per game, leading the Tigers in both scoring and rebounding, while her 13.6 points per game rank 11th in the SEC. The forward has put up double-figure scoring numbers in 21 games this season and leads Mizzou with 11 double-doubles, which includes an SEC-leading streak of five consecutive double-doubles. Her 11 double-doubles stand as the second-most in Mizzou history, dating back to the 1993-94 season. Her rebounding numbers are the best for any Tiger since the 1997-98 season as well.
Not only does Frericks lead the Tigers in scoring and rebounding, but in blocks (1.3 per game), steals (1.6 per game) and field goals made (5.0 per game) as well. Frericks ranks second in the SEC with her 6.1 defensive rebounds per game, a number that contributes to Mizzou's league-leading 29 defensive rebounds per contest this season. Frericks' defensive efforts have led the Tigers to the SEC's best field-goal percentage defense as well; Mizzou holds opponents to just 34.7-percent shooting, the 10th-best mark in the nation.
Frericks and the Tigers will head to the SEC tournament, facing the No. 10 seed, Georgia on Thursday. The game is set for 6 p.m. and will air on SEC Network. For more information on Mizzou Women's Basketball, check in to MUTigers.com.
