Mizzou Opens Home Slate with Doubleheader Against SEMO

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou Softball (13-3, 3-0) hosts in-state foe SEMO in its home opener on Wednesday. The Tigers and Redhawks will square off in a doubleheader with games starting at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Admission is $2.00 for the general public and free for all students. Gates open at 3 p.m.

The Tigers are coming off a sweep over SEC rival South Carolina. Mizzou outscored the Gamecocks 21-5 over a three-game span and have won five consecutive games. Junior Sami Fagan went 5-for-13 in the three-game set and Corrin Genovese found her stride, going 6-for-9 for at the dish over the weekend.

The Tigers have won their last 12 home openers with the last loss coming on Feb. 16, 2002 (2-1 to Western Illinois). Mizzou owns a 23-3 advantage all-time against SEMO. The Redhawks are 3-6 under first year coach Mark Redburn. Ten of SEMO's scheduled games in 2015 thus far have been cancelled due to weather conditions.

Following Wednesday's doubleheader, Mizzou hits the road again to compete at the N.C. State Hyatt Place Invitational in Raleigh, N.C. The Tigers will face Fordham, Lipscomb, Binghamton, No. 25 North Carolina State and Longwood from March 13-15.

GAME NOTES

Wednesday's matchup against SEMO marked Mizzou's first home contest of the season.

Taylor Gadbois led off the game with a single. She currently leads the team with a .404 batting average, good enough to place her in the top-20 in the conference.

Kelsea Roth walked three times in three plate appearances, giving her a season high for walks in a game - as well as tying her career high. The senior is now tied for seventh all-time in Mizzou history for walk in a career with 82. She needs just three more to move into the top-six

Sami Fagan also walked three times in Wednesday's matchup against SEMO, giving her a new career high as well. Her previous high was two bases on balls on six separate occasions

Emily Crane recorded a stolen base in the first inning, giving her eight on the year. She ranks second on the team in stole bases both this season and in a career

Freshman pitcher Paige Lowary set a new career high with nine strikeouts. Her previous career high was eight against Cleveland St. on Feb. 14.

Kelsea Roth plated the Tigers' two lone runs on the final at bat of the game. With two on and two out in the ninth, Roth singled into left field to give Mizzou a walk-off win

Wednesday's win over SEMO marks the first time Mizzou has won when trailing after six innings since its victory over Penn State on Feb. 27

This win makes it 13 straight wins for Mizzou in home openers. The last loss in a home opener came back in 2002.
