Cox Named USA Wrestling's Athlete Of The Week

Feb. 24, 2015

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou wrestling sophomore J'den Cox has been named USA Wrestling's Athlete of the Week, as announced today by TheMat.com. Cox had an outstanding weekend at the 2015 National Duals Finals, as he defeated two top-10 opponents at 197 pounds en route to a perfect 3-0 record in Iowa City, Iowa.

Each week, TheMat.com selects an Athlete of the Week, based upon performances within the sport of wrestling. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Last Saturday, Feb. 21, the Columbia, Mo. native defeated Illinois' Jeffrey Koepke by major decision and Lehigh's No. 10 Elliot Riddick by decision to help advance the Tigers to the National Duals Finals championship match.

The following day against then No. 1 Iowa, Cox tallied a 4-3 decision triumph over No. 6 Nathan Burak to officially clinch Mizzou's dual victory over the Hawkeyes.

The defending 197 pound NCAA National Champion amassed a perfect 30-0 regular season record during his 2014-15 campaign. Dating back to last season, Cox has been victorious in 50 consecutive matches. That active mark is tops among all NCAA Division I wrestlers.
