Tigers Improve To 17-0 Following Weekend Sweep
Mizzou wrestling kept trucking along last weekend at the Hearnes Center, as they defeated No. 7 Oklahoma State, 22-10, and Northern Illinois, 32-12. Their win against the Cowboys was their first against them since the 2010-11 season.
The team's wins on Jan. 23 and Jan. 25 improved the Tigers to a perfect 17-0 this season, and the team has won 21 consecutive duals dating back to last season. Mizzou had revenge in their eyes even before their dual against the Cowboys began, as the very same Oklahoma State squad was responsible for the Tigers' last team loss (28-6 on Jan. 31, 2014).
2014-15 Tigers Continue To Make Program History
Mizzou's 17-0 start this season is the best start to a season in program history. The previous 15-0 mark was held by the 1967-68 Tiger squad under Head Coach Hap Whitney. With a handful of duals remaining on the 2014-15 schedule, this year's Mizzou squad has a chance to make history again.
With one more dual win, the Tigers will have tied the all-time program mark for most wins in a season (18). Three past Mizzou wrestling teams have accomplished that feat. They include the 1967-68 squad (18-0-1), 2001-02 team (18-3) and the 2008-09 club (18-4).
