MINNEAPOLIS - The Mizzou women's swimming and diving team concluded competition at the 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday at the University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn. During the three-day meet, two individuals and a Tiger relay earned honorable mention All-America honors.
During Friday finals, freshman Katharine Ross, junior Danielle Barbiea and the 200 medley relay team all participated in consolation finals to claim All-America honorable mention honors. By advancing to the `B' final, Ross became the first Mizzou freshman swimmer to earn individual All-America honors since 1978.
The Tigers competed in three events in Saturday preliminaries, the 100 free, 200 breast and 400 free relay.
In the 200 breast, Ross continued her strong swimming by breaking Missouri's program record in the event. The freshman placed 30th with a time of 2:10.80, which broke Kayla Durnil's school mark of 2:11.20, set in 2009. Ross now holds both breast records for the Tigers.
Sophomore Anna Patterson narrowly missed a spot in the 100 free consolation finals after a swim of 48.40 to finish tied for 18th. Also competing in the event was junior Danielle Barbiea, who took 52nd in 49.80.
Mizzou finished the meet in the 400 free relay, where the foursome of Patterson, Barbiea, freshman Brittany Hammond and junior Emily Doucette finished 27th in 3:20.00.
