COLUMBUS, Ohio - Nine divers from the Mizzou diving program and two incoming signees completed competition at the six-day 2014 USA Diving Winter National Championships last weekend. The Tigers' performances were highlighted by junior Lauren Reedy's third-place finish on 1-meter on Dec. 16.
Reedy was the top prelims 1-meter qualifier among 47 divers with a score of 280.00 points. She then tallied 265.15 points in finals, including scores above 60 in her final two dives, to complete the 1-meter competition with 544.15 points to take third-place overall. She finished behind Samantha Pickens, who claimed the 2013 NCAA 1-meter title and Ariel Rittenhouse, a 2008 Olympian.
Reedy also finished 13th on 3-meter after advancing to the semifinals and 13th on 3-meter synchro with diving partner Elissa Dawson of North Carolina. The duo missed making finals by less than 0.2.
On 3-meter synchro, senior Lauren Callin and freshman Kendra Kieser earned a spot in the finals after a prelims score of 224.58 and ultimately took 11th with a two-round score of 445.38. Also competing for the Tigers were freshman Madeline McKernan (with signee Payton Conrad) and freshman Alexa Beckwith.
For the men, junior Clark Thomas led the way with an eighth-place finish on 3-meter synchro with diving partner Ryan Hawkins. The pair were seventh after prelims with 344.31 points, then totaled 301.48 points in finals for a combined score of 645.57. Mizzou's three other divers on 3-meter synchro also qualified for finals, with signee Kyle Goodwin and diving partner Joseph Cifelli placing 11th (579.90) and freshmen Elliot Cecil and Hunter Fritter taking 12th (546.78).
The divers return to action next week for at the Tennessee Diving Invite, Jan. 3-5, in Knoxville, Tenn.
