Overall

  • Saturday's game was just the third meeting between Mizzou and Tennessee and Mizzou now owns a 3-0 mark in the all-time series, including a 2-0 mark at Neyland Stadium.
  • Mizzou head coach Gary Pinkel moves to 111-65 following Saturday's game against Tennessee. He is the winningest coach in program history.
  • The win is the Tigers' 10th consecutive on the road, which sets a new school record that was held previously by the 1978-80 Tigers (nine straight).
  • Mizzou senior TB Marcus Murphy came into the game with one rushing TD on the season, but tallied Mizzou's first two TDs.
  • Senior Markus Golden recorded 2.0 sacks on Saturday. He now has 4.0 over the last two games.
  • Mizzou sacked UT QB Joshua Dobbs six times on Saturday. He was sacked just once in his previous two games (South Carolina, Kentucky), spanning 158 plays.
  • The six sacks tie a season high, set vs. UCF and repeated at Florida.
  • The Tiger defense's 12 tackles for loss was a season high, topping the 11 vs. Indiana.
  • Mizzou's defense continued a recent trend of slowing an opponent coming off of a brilliant offensive performance in the previous week. It started after a win over Kentucky in which Mizzou limited the Wildcats to 10 points, one week removed from hanging 31 on then top-ranked Mississippi State. The Tigers then held Texas A&M to 27 points one week after it had hung 41 on then third-ranked Auburn. Tennessee was coming off of a season-high 50 points against Kentucky last week. That's an average of minus-21.3 points for Mizzou's last three opponents one week removed.

1st Quarter

  • Mizzou limited UT to just two first downs and 2.2 yards per play in the first half. The defense combined for four total tackles for loss (two sacks) in the frame.
  • Mizzou ran 23 plays in the first quarter to just 14 for the Vols. UT's average starting position for its drives was its own 49-yard line
  • Mizzou converted three third-down conversions on the first drive of the game, leading to a one-yard TD run by Marcus Murphy. That capped a 12-play, 75-yard drive for Mizzou that ate up 4:37 of clock. It was the second rushing TD of the season for the Hornung Award Finalist.
  • On Tennessee's first drive, junior DE Shane Ray picked up his 19th TFL this season on the second play, stopping Jalen Hurd for a loss of three. Ray picked up a half sack, bull-rushing Joshua Dobbs on third down to knock UT out of field goal range late in the quarter.
  • Senior DE Markus Golden picked up sack No. 7.5 this season and his third over the last two games on the Vols second drive.
  • UT got on the board with a 38-yard field goal with 3:41 remaining in the quarter despite not converting a first down and averaging 0.1 yards per play until that point.

2nd Quarter

  • Mizzou added four more TFLs in the second quarter to finish the half with eight, matching its most in SEC play this season (also had eight at South Carolina).
  • Seven different players combined for those eight TFLs, including 2.5 from senior DE Markus Golden.
  • Mizzou sacked Joshua Dobbs four times in the first half. He had been sacked just two times in his previous two starts against South Carolina and Kentucky, spanning 158 plays.

3rd Quarter

  • Junior placekicker Andrew Baggett connected on a 43-yard field goal with 7:40 remaining in the quarter. It was one yard shy of his season-long, which is 44 yards against South Dakota State. He is 4-for-7 from 40-49 yards this season.

4th Quarter

  • Junior Kenya Dennis pulled in his first career interception in with 12:30 remaining in the quarter, stalling a drive that had advanced deep into Mizzou territory.
  • Senior wideout Jimmie Hunt hauled in a career-long 73-yard TD pass with 10:42 remaining in the quarter. It marks the longest TD catch by a Tiger this season, topping the previous best of 47 yards by Bud Sasser at Toledo.
  • Senior WR Bud Sasser hauled in his team-leading ninth TD of the season with 6:22 left to put the Tigers up 29-13.
