LAST TIME OUT...
• Mizzou Basketball got into the win column for the 2014-15 season and gave first-year head coach Kim Anderson his first victory as the leader of the Tiger program with an impressive 56-41 victory over Valparaiso on Sunday, Nov. 16.
• Sophomore guard Wes Clark posted a career-best 16 points (4-for-8 FG, 2-for-3 3PT) to help lead the Tigers to the win.
• The defensive effort from the Tigers was a notable one, with Mizzou last holding an opponent to 41 points or fewer during the 2012-13 season. The Tigers kept Mississippi State cold on Feb. 13, 2013, with a 78-36 win.
• With the victory over Valparaiso, Mizzou has now held an opponent to 41 points or fewer just six times since the 1998-99 season (the final season Kim Anderson served as an assistant coach under the legendary Norm Stewart). Those other results came on Feb. 13, 2013 (W, 78-36 at Mississippi State); Dec. 8, 2012 (W, 68-38); Dec. 12, 2009 (W, 87-36 vs. Farleigh Dickinson); Dec. 27, 2007 (W, 72-38 vs. Coppin State); Dec. 9, 1998 (W, 89-33 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff).
A LOOK AT THE OPPONENT... ORAL ROBERTS
• The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, led by Scott Sutton, are 1-0 on the 2014-15 season after a season-opening win over Tulsa (77-68) on Saturday, Nov. 15. ORU was led in scoring by Obi Emegano's 26 points (5-for-11 FG, 2-for-4 3PT). Three other Golden Eagles got into double figures (Korey Billbury - 18; Bobby Word - 14; Adrion Webber - 10). Billbury also led the squad with 11 rebounds.
• Sutton is 288-193 in his 16th season leading the Golden Eagles and is the all-time winningest coach at ORU. The team is coming off a 17-16 season in 2013-14 in which the Golden Eagles posted a 5-11 away record.
• ORU's starting lineup in the win vs. Tulsa (Brandon Conley, Word, Emegano, Webb and Billbury) is an experienced group with one senior in Webber, three juniors in Billbury, Conley and Emegano and a sophomore in Word.
• Mizzou leads the all-time series vs. ORU, 6-1, with the Tigers last facing the Golden Eagles in 2010 for a 81-62 win in Columbia.
SNEAKING A PEEK AT...
• Mizzou will head to the EA Sports Maui Invitational from Nov. 24-26, hosted by Chaminade University inside the Lahaina Civic Center in Maui, Hawaii. Missouri made its first appearance in what was then called the "Silversword Classic" in 1986, and has since appeared in the tournament's field in 1989 and 1997.
• The Tigers start off the event with currently No. 2-ranked Arizona (2-0) on Monday, Nov. 24. Mizzou fans will be able to watch the action live on ESPN2 at 4 p.m., CT. The Wildcats, coached by Sean Miller in his sixth season, posted a 33-5 record last season and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight round. UA returns three starters and 10 letterwinners from that squad.
• Mizzou will then face either Kansas State or Purdue in the second round of the tournament. The Wildcats went 20-13 a season ago and return three starters and nine letterwinners from that group. K-State played in the NCAA Midwest Regional Second Round in 2014.
• The Boilermakers saw out a 15-17 campaign last season, but built up on experience as three starters and nine letterwinners are back from that team.
• Other teams playing out on the island include: Pittsburgh, host Chaminade, BYU and San Diego State.
