Nov. 11, 2014

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Three members of the Missouri swimming and diving program were recognized this week for their performances in a quad dual meet last weekend against host Kentucky, Northwestern and Southern Illinois. Sophomores Michael Chadwick and Katharine Ross were named the SEC Male and Female Swimmers of the Week, respectively, while freshman Hannah Stevens claimed SEC Female Freshman of the Week for the second time this year, the SEC announced on Tuesday.

Chadwick, who hails from Charlotte, N.C., took home his first SEC weekly honor with victories in both the 100 free (44.41) and 200 free (1:38.70) against Kentucky, Northwestern and SIU. Chadwick also helped Mizzou win the 400 medley relay (3:17.89) by anchoring his team with a 43.69 split. His 100 free time of 44.41 ranks 20th in the NCAA, and he remains ranked 23nd nationally in the 200 free. Chadwick now has five individual event wins through three meets in 2014-15.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Ross took home wins in the 100 breast and 200 IM, as well as helping the Tigers to first-place finishes in the 200 and 400 medley relays. Her winning 100 breast time of 1:01.15 currently ranks ninth nationally, while her 200 IM time of 2:01.64 ranks 19th nationally. Ross also helped the Tigers to first-place times of 1:42.23 in the 200 medley relay and 3:39.79 in the 400 medley relay.

Stevens claimed Female Freshman of the Week honors for the second time after she swept the backstroke events and helped the Tigers to two relay wins against Kentucky, Northwestern and SIU. The Lexington, Ohio, native swam collegiate best times of 54.97 in the 100 back and 1:57.17 in the 200 back, a time that ranks 16th nationally, to garner her two individual wins. Stevens was also a part of Mizzou's winning 200 and 400 medley relay teams against the three schools.

The Tigers return to the pool on Thursday, Nov. 20 for the seventh annual Mizzou Invite. The three-day, championship-format meet pits Missouri against Drury, Florida International, Illinois, Missouri S&T, New Mexico, UNLV and West Virginia.
