COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou soccer team is headed back to the NCAA Tournament as the Tigers earned the sixth Tournament berth in program history, the NCAA announced on Monday. Missouri will travel to face Kansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Rock Chalk Park on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
The 2014 berth marked the sixth time the Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament, as the squad also made the field in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2008 and 2012. Mizzou is 2-3-3 all-time in the Tournament and has a record of 2-1-2 in NCAA first round games. The squad has advanced to the second round three times, after wins over Eastern Illinois (1-0) in 2003 and Evansville (2-0) in 2008 and a 1-1 tie against SEMO, where the team advanced 2-0 on penalty kicks.
Missouri earned its berth with an 11-6-3 overall record, including wins over NCAA Tournament teams Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia and Arkansas.
Kansas owns a record of 15-5 record and posted a 5-3 mark in Big 12 Conference action. The Jayhawks, ranked No. 18 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire top-25 poll, are coming off a close 2-1 loss to Oklahoma in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament last week.
The two squads have met 20 times previously, with the Jayhawks holding a slim 10-9-1 lead in the all-time series. The last time the two teams met, on Oct. 21, 2011, Missouri scored three times in the final six minutes of regulation to post a dramatic 3-2 win in Columbia.
