Game Notes

  • With the win on Saturday, Mizzou improves to 3-2 in the all-time series with UK and has won three consecutive games against the Wildcats, all three since Mizzou joined the SEC in 2012.
  • Mizzou head coach Gary Pinkel improves to 109-65 since taking over the program and is the winningest coach in program history.
  • Mizzou is now 22-7 in the month of November since 2007. There is no surprise that in that span, Mizzou has won four conference division championships.
  • The win gives Mizzou three consecutive triumphs, matching its longest streak of the season. Mizzou also won the first three games of the season against South Dakota State, Toledo and UCF.
  • Mizzou, now 4-1 in SEC play, leads the SEC Eastern Division after Georgia lost to Florida on Saturday, dropping UGA to to 4-2 in SEC play.
  • Mizzou's defense was stifling on Saturday, limiting Kentucky to 10 points, its fewest against an SEC opponent this season. It matches the fewest points allowed by the Tiger defense in SEC play since a 31-3 win vs. Tennessee on Nov. 2 of last season, spanning 364 days. The 10 total points scored by Kentucky also matches the fewest that Mizzou has allowed all season - Mizzou also allowed just 10 points against UCF on Sept. 13.
  • No conference foe has gained more than 400 yards on Mizzou's offense this season. In fact, Mizzou has now allowed just 37 points over the last three SEC contests (12.33 per contest).
  • Mizzou's defense shut down a Kentucky offense that gained 504 total yards and hung 31 points on No. 1 Mississippi State last weekend. One week removed from throwing for 390 yards, two TDs and rushing for 76 yards and two more TDs, UK QB Patrick Towles was limited on Saturday by the Tiger defense. He finished with just 158 yards passing and no rushing yards in 11 attempts.
  • Senior tailback Marcus Murphy moved into second place on Mizzou's all-time career all-purpose yardage list on Saturday. He passed Brad Smith (4,419 all-purpose yards from 2002-05) and now trails only current Philadelphia Eagle standout Jeremy Maclin (5,609 from 2007-08). Murphy finished the game with 75 all-purpose yards, moving his career total to 4,431, which is 12 ahead of Smith's 4,419.
  • Kentrell Brothers finished with a career-high 13 tackles on Saturday, his fifth game with at least six tackles this season. Eight of his tackles Saturday were of the solo variety.
  • Michael Scherer matched a career-high with 13 tackles on Saturday as he now has seven or more tackles in eight of nine games this season. His 13 tackles match his most since Sept. 20 against Indiana.
  • Brothers and Scherer combined for 26 tackles, three tackles for loss, a quarterback hit, a quarterback hurry and eight solo tackles.
  • Shane Ray tallied a pair of sacks, including the game-clincher on fourth down, to set the school's single season sacks record with 12.0. The previous record was held by both Aldon Smith and Michael Sam.
  • Braylon Webb started his 39th game at safety on Saturday - that is the most of any active safety in the SEC.
  • Maty Mauk completed 18-of-33 passes for 164 yards on Saturday. The 18 completions are his most since Sept. 20 against Indiana (29) and over his last two games, he is 29-of-56 with four TDs and no INTs. He has a QBR better than 100 in last two contests, after not doing so in three straight games to open SEC play.
  • Mauk also ran for a season-high 75 yards on a career-high 14 carries.
  • Junior kicker Andrew Baggett tallied eight points on Saturday, moving his career total 254 points. That ranks him fourth in program history. He passed former running back Zach Abron on Saturday.

First Quarter Notes

  • Mizzou ran 24 plays in the opening quarter of action while Kentucky ran just eight. Mizzou out-gained UK 84-18 in the first quarter, limiting the Wildcats to -2 passing yards.
  • UK did not move into Mizzou territory in the first quarter and all three of Mizzou's drives went into UK territory. The Tigers held a decisive 10:53-4:07 advantage in time of possession in the first quarter.

Second Quarter Notes

  • Senior Bud Sasser picked up his third TD catch over the last two games with 12:56 remaining in the quarter, a three-yard strike from Mauk. It was his team-leading seventh this season. It capped a nine-play, 55-yard drive that lasted 4:15.
  • Sasser added a 26-yard strike to his ledger later in the quarter, giving Mizzou a 14-3 lead. It was his fourth TD over the last two games and his eighth TD of the year. That capped an eight-play, 72-yard drive in which Mauk went 4-for-4 for 56 yards and the 26-yard TD strike
  • Mikel Horton's 27-yard scamper on UK's second scoring drive was the first rush play of more than 20 yards allowed by the Tiger defense in SEC play this season. The drive was capped by a 47-yard field goal for Kentucky's first score.
  • Freshman Nate Brown hauled in a 16-yard pass late in the second quarter, setting new career-highs for catches (2) and yards (22) by halftime. Brown finished the game with three catches for 27 yards.
  • Senior Marcus Murphy scampered for seven yards late in the quarter as he posted 65 all-purpose yards by halftime. That moved him into second place on Mizzou's career all-purpose yard leaders, passing former standout QB Brad Smith.
  • Mizzou limited UK to just 14 yards passing in the first half, the fewest that Mizzou has allowed in a single half this season.
  • Aarion Penton hauled in his third interception of the season with 22 seconds remaining in the second quarter. It was his first since the Toledo game on Sept. 6. Penton's pick stopped a streak of 159 consecutive opponent passes without an interception, the second-longest in school history.
  • Maty Mauk had more passing yards (126) than Kentucky had total yards (111) in the first half.
  • Mizzou had 14 first downs (7-of-10 on third down) in the first half while Kentucky had just six first downs, going 0-for-4 on third down.

Third Quarter Notes

  • Shane Ray came up with a huge, fourth-down sack with 6:31 remaining the quarter, stalling a UK drive. It was his 11th sack of the season and his first since the Florida game.
  • Marcus Murphy returned a punt for 26 yards with 2:30 remaining in the frame, moving his career kick/punt return total to 2,686. He is the NCAA's active leader in that category. It was his sixth punt return of 20 or more yards this season.

Fourth Quarter Notes

  • Kentucky completed a pass for 21 yards late in the quarter, just the eighth pass play of more than 20 yards against the Tigers in SEC play.
  • Shane Ray sacked Patrick Towles to end UK's final drive, giving him 12.0 on the season, setting the new school record, passing Aldon Smith and Michael Sam.
