COLUMBIA, Mo. - Mizzou women's tennis is set to compete in their fourth tournament of the Fall 2014 season this upcoming weekend in Bloomington, Ind. At the Hoosier Classic, sophomore Beatriz Machado Santos, sophomore Cassidy Spearman and freshman Brianna Lashway will all contend for the Tigers.
This weekend will mark the first action for both Santos and Spearman since the Sept. 19-21 Mizzou Invite in Kansas City, Mo. At the Fall 2014 opener, Santos finished with a perfect 3-0 mark in singles and claimed the No. 2 singles title at the tournament. Spearman also shined for the Tigers in Kansas City, as she also recorded a 3-0 singles record and took home the No. 5 singles championship.
The Hoosier Classic will mark the third Fall tournament for Brianna Lashway, as she previously competed at the Mizzou Invite and Bulldog Tennis Classic. After an impressive Fall 2014 opener in Kansas City, where she went a combined 6-2, Lashway followed up with a pair of victories in Athens, Ga. (Oct. 10-12).
Santos and Spearman look to bounce back in doubles play in Bloomington, Ind., as the Tigers #1 doubles tandem recorded a 2-3 record in Kansas City. Santos brings an outstanding doubles record to Mizzou, after compiling an impressive 16-5 record last year while playing at Texas Tech University. Last season in her first in the old black and gold, Spearman had greater success in doubles play, as she finished with 11 wins in comparison to 9 wins in singles action.
Mizzou will be one of seven teams to compete at this weekend's tournament. Indiana, Western Michigan, Cincinnati, DePaul, Morehead State, and Middle Tennessee State will also join the Tigers and send members of their respective rosters.
The Tigers conclude their Fall 2014 schedule from Nov. 7-9 with a trip to the San Diego State Invite. Mizzou's Spring 2015 opener takes place on Jan. 17 with a visit to UT-Arlington, and then have their home opener on Jan. 28 with a double-header against Northern Iowa and SIU-Edwardsville
