Game Notes: Mizzou |
COLUMBIA, Mo. -Mizzou volleyball will head to Gainesville for a SEC showdown with No. 8 Florida on Friday at 6 p.m. on the SEC Network. It will be Mizzou's first match against a ranked opponent this season and it will be the first time that Mizzou faces a top-10 team on the road since sweeping UF in Gainesville last November.
Mizzou and Florida's series dates back just three seasons when Mizzou (then members of the Big 12) met the Gators in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament in Northern Iowa. Florida won that meeting, 3-1, sparking a stretch of three consecutive wins for the Gators. Florida swept the 2012 season series in straight sets, but Mizzou came back to sweep the season series a year ago, winning 3-1 in Columbia and 3-0 in Gainesville. At the time, Mizzou's 3-0 win at the O'Connell Center was the first time that Florida was swept at home in SEC play and just their sixth home SEC loss under head coach Mary Wise. Mizzou closed the gap in the all-time series to 3-2 in favor of UF with the two wins a season ago.
Senior outside hitter Emily Wilson tallied 17 kills in last Sunday's match at Mississippi State. That moved her career total to 996 as she is just four kills away from becoming the 14th player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills. Since joining the SEC, Wilson has 28 kills on .333 hitting in 13 sets played against the Gators.
Senior libero Sarah Meister pulled in a season-high 26 digs in her last match against Mississippi State. That moved her career digs total to 1,386 in her three-plus seasons at Mizzou. She will likely finish her career in that third-place spot on Mizzou's all-time digs list as she is now 611 back of second place all-time (Caitlyn Vann - 1,997 from 2007-10).
Junior outside hitter Regan Peltier is coming off of the best match of her career. In the Tigers' five-set win at Mississippi State last Sunday, Peltier reset career-highs in kills (22), attempts (49), hitting (.327) and points (23.0) while setting season-highs in digs and assists. It was just the fourth 20-plus kill performance for the Tigers this season. Her previous career-best was 12 kills, set her freshman year at Alabama.
Recapping Mississippi State
Mizzou volleyball snapped a four-match road losing streak with a 3-2, (23-25, 25-12, 25-13, 22-25, 15-12) win at Mississippi State last Sunday. Junior outside hitter Regan Peltier led Mizzou with a career-high 22 kills, doing so on .327 hitting. Peltier was one of three Tigers with double-digit kill totals as senior Emily Wilson added 17 kills while sophomore Carly Kan finished with 14 kills and 17 digs, good for her SEC-leading 14th double-double. Senior libero Sarah Meister moved into third place on Mizzou's all-time career digs list with 26 on Sunday, giving her 1,386 in her career. Her 26 digs are a season-high and just one off of her career-best mark. But it was all about Peltier, who finished with career-highs in kills (22), attempts (49), points (23) and hitting (12 or more kills, .327). It was Mizzou's fourth 20-kill performance of the season.
