
Rogers Leads Tigers at Mercedes Benz

Knoxville, Tenn. - Mizzou Women's Golf closed out the first round of play at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. in a tie for fifth overall. The Tigers shot 13-over par through the first round and sit just four strokes out of the top three. Senior Alina Rogers led Mizzou through the round, finishing the day in a tie for second overall. No. 33 Kent State leads the tournament with a first round total 5-over par followed by UCF and Louisville who sit at 9-over par.
Rogers tallied three birdies in the first round of play to finish the day at even par. She is just one stroke behind Furman's Taylor Totland who leads the tournament at 1-under par. Freshman Clara Young and Junior Kat Hepler are tied with a first round tally 4-over par. The two are closely followed by teammate Jess meek who is tied for 33rd in the tournament with a score 5-over par. Senior Laura Kraft finished the day 7-over par for the Tigers as well.
Hosted by Tennessee, The Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships are being held at Cherokee Country Club, which boasts a Par 71, 5,870-yard course. The second round of play is set for 9 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 18.
Joining Missouri in the tournament is Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Denver, Eastern Kentucky, ETSU, Furman, Kent State, Louisville, Michigan, Mississippi, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCF and Wisconsin.
